The Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 preliminary round pools and competition rest days

The pool allocations represent nations’ International Netball Federation (INF) rankings as of July this year. This follows the annual update which occurs on July 1 when rankings are re-calculated.

Sri Lanka & Uganda have crossed pools to comply with the INF regulation that no more than two teams from any one region may be allocated to any given pool. In this instance Pool C would have included Malawi, South Africa & Uganda; three teams representing the African region.

The pool allocations reflect the re-vamped competition format, announced in November 2013, which will see top nations such as Australia and New Zealand, England and Jamaica and Malawi and South Africa meeting earlier in the competition – playing matches in the preliminary rounds.

For Fechner, today’s announcement represents a key milestone for the 16 competing nations as well as their passionate fans.

“With 2014 drawing to a close, nations can begin to map out what our 10 days in August next year will look like and who they will face in the opening four days of competition – during the preliminary rounds on days 1, 2, 3 and 4,” Fechner said.

“Under the revised competition format, we know that the Malawi Queens will take on South Africa, England will play the Jamaica Sunshine Girls and the current reigning World Champions, the Australian Diamonds will take on the New Zealand Silver Ferns within the first three days of competition, which is an incredibly exciting prospect for our fans.”

“With pending international broadcast negotiations, we will confirm playing times and days of these hugely exciting games next year, however it was important to us to provide fans with plenty of time to plan their full 10 day Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 experience.”

“With a Bledisloe tie sitting within our Opening Weekend (Fri 7 – Sun 9 August) which will feature the Diamonds taking on the Silver Ferns at Sydney Olympic Park, it is going to be a very special experience and we are encouraging netball fans to plan ahead!”

For Australian based fans and supporters, NWC2015 today also announced that a domestic broadcast partnership has been secured for the World Cup with Fox Sports as subscription television partner and Network Ten as the free-to-air partner.

The deal returns the sport to free-to-air television and reignites a long standing history between Network Ten and netball. It also reflects Fox Sport’s ongoing commitment to the sport with this historic partnership the first time Australia’s leading sports broadcaster will televise the sport’s pinnacle event, the Netball World Cup.

The broadcast partnership represents Fox Sports’ and Network Ten’s support of the growth of netball and the promotion of women’s sport.

In a win for netball fans around the country, Fox Sports will cover all Netball World Cup games, and Network Ten will broadcast the Australian Diamonds’ matches on TEN or ONE, with their pool match against the New Zealand Silver Ferns, their predicted semi-final clash and potential gold medal match to be shown live on TEN.
